My first ATMP Presentation to Council

Project team members Nick Sully (WSP Canada), Jamie Stuckless, and Adam Gilmore (Township of Centre Wellington) outside Town Hall after presenting the draft ATMP to Council.

For the past year, I have been leading community engagement to inform the development of an Active Transportation & Mobility Plan (ATMP) for the Township of Centre Wellington. I am really proud of the work we did to directly engage with over 2,300 community members, and of how we worked collaboratively with the technical team and client to ensure that community input is reflected throughout all elements of the plan. It’s been an incredibly fun project to work on, attending community events, hosting pop-ups and listening sessions with local partners, and reimagining local street designs through in-school workshops.

I was in Centre Wellington last Monday to present the draft plan to Council, alongside project leads WSP Canada and Township staff. This was the first ATMP I have worked on as a consultant, and my first time presenting to a Council on behalf of Stuckless Consulting Inc. Some very exciting milestones for Stuckless Consulting Inc.!

As an added bonus, Deputy Project Manager Nick Sully and I were able to visit the Church St Calm Street pop-up project while we were in town for the Council presentation. We were on-site at the end of the school day and saw many, many families using the space to walk, bike, and roll home together.

Families walking, cycling, and scooting along the calm street. This section of the street is closed to motor vehicles using bollards and flower planters.

This pop-up project was launched as part of our work on the ATMP and is part of staff efforts to show that the plan is going to be implemented, not just sit on a shelf. The goal is to reduce motor vehicle cut-through traffic in the area, and support a safer space for walking, cycling, and rolling.

The calm street pop-up also addresses a desire we heard throughout our community engagement from Councillors, students, and the community at large for safer active transportation connections to schools.
